PCIe 6.0 Spec Reaches Version 0.5

The PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) releases an update on the development of PCIe 6.0-- the specification is now up to version 0.5, with a first draft available with feedback received from members following the October 2019 publishing of version 0.3.

PCI-SIGThe organisation says the update marks "momentous progress," and is confident the PCIe 6.0 standard remains on track to be finalised in 2021. As a Forst Draft specification, version 0.5 marks a final call for the submission of new features by PCI-SIG member companies. It also allows companies to design test silicon to ensure everything works, before starting preliminary work on actual commercial chips.

Sony announces a successor to last year's super-tall Xperia 1 flagship-- the Xperia 1 II (Mark two), a device featuring a 21:9 6.5-inch OLED HDR display and, in a first for the company, 5G connectivity.

Revealed at the Sony MWC replacement livestream, the Xperia 1 II is a handset with a focus set firmly on photography. It carries a triple-lens camera incorporating "industry-leading" Sony Alpha technology and specially calibrated Zeiss optics. The three cameras feature a 12MP sensor, together with with a 24mm, f/1.7 lens with a 82-degree field of view, a 70mm f/2.4 lens with a 34-degree field of view and a 16mm f/2.2 lens with a 124-degree field of view. Also included is 3D time-of-flight sensor for enhanced zoom, while the front has an 8MP selfie camera with a f/2.0 lens with an 84-degree field of view.

Huawei had a tablet announcement in store for MWC 2020, but since the Barcelona event is cancelled it just had to do it the regular way-- the MatePad Pro 5G, a self-explanatory 5G update of the iPad Pro-style MatePad Pro.

Announced last year for the Chinese market, the MatePad Pro is a high-end Android tablet. It features a 10.8-inch 16:10 aspect ratio AMOLED touchscreen complete with a punch hole for an 8MP front-facing camera. Display resolution clocks at 2560 x 1600, and Huawei claims it has a screen-to-body ratio of no less than 90%. The display is also allows for pen input, specifically through the (not included) M-Pencil stylus.

HTC expands the Vive Cosmos VR headset line with three models-- the Cosmos Elite, Cosmos Play and Cosmos XR, all offering swappable faceplates while being aimed at different segments of the consumer market.

Gigabyte quietly adds four Intel Comet Lake-U powered models to the Brix ultra-compact form-factor (UCFF) PC line, all ideal for a number of applications, including consumer, office and even commercial.

Brix UCFF PCs are barebones models based on Intel 10th generation Core (Comet Lake-U) processors. The four base models on offer feature the Core i7-10710U with six cores, the Core i7-10510U and Core i5-10210U with four cores, and the two-core Core i3-10110U. Customers can equip all systems with up to 64GB DDR4-2666 memory with two SO-DIMMS, an M.2-2280 SSD with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and a 2.5-inch SSD or HDD via SATA 6Gbps interface.
