HP Rejects Xerox Offer... Again

The HP board makes declares the latest "unsolicited exchange offer" from Xerox is not in the best interest of the company, and unanimously insists shareholders not only reject said offer, but also hold on to their shares.

“Our message to HP shareholders is clear-- the Xerox offer undervalues HP and disproportionately benefits Xerox shareholders at the expense of HP shareholders,” chairman Chip Berg says. “The Xerox offer would leave our shareholders with an investment in a combined company that is burdened with an irresponsible level of debt and which would subsequently require unrealistic, unachievable synergies that would jeopardize the entire company.”

FSP Puts 2 PCs in T-Wings Chassis

Taiwanese PC accessory maker FSP launches a unique-looking PC case able to carry two PCs-- the T-Wings (CMT710), a semi-open chassis complete with an angular winged design the company says is inspired by bat wings.

First seen back at CES 2020, the T-Wings is primarily aimed at "hardcore gamers," as well as high-end desktop systems. As such, it is fully RGB LED-lit and offers liquid cooling support with up to two 360mm radiators. Construction is in aluminium with 4mm tempered glass panels, and customers have to keep in mind the wings are fixed, not animated.

IDC Lowers PCD Forecast Due to Coronavirus

The ongoing spread of the coronavirus (aka Covid-19) leads IDC to lower its 2020 forecast for personal computing devices (PCDs)-- predicting global shipments will drop by -9% to 374.2 million units.

The PCD forecast covers desktops, notebooks, workstations and tablets. It suggests numbers will improve on the long-term, if slightly, as shipments should should reach 377.2m by 2024 with a 5-year CAGR of 0.2%. The 2020 decline is the result of two significant factors. The coronavirus has already been mentioned, but one also has to keep in mind the Windows 7 to Windows 10 transition creates tougher Y-o-Y growth comparisons.

EVGA announces a range of entry-levels 80 Plus certified power supplies-- the B5 series PSUs, with 550, 650, 750 and 850W models compliant with the latest t ATX12 v2.52/EPS12V specifications.

The PSUs are compliant with 80 Plus Bronze requirements, meaning they are 80-88% efficient under a 20% or 50% load, as well as 81-85% efficient under a 100% load. EVGA says the 750 and 850W models use 100% Japanese capacitors, and feature a no-fan/Eco mode able to shut down the 135mm fluid dynamic bearing fan under low and medium loads. Protection is also included through  OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection).

USB ControllerCypress announces a pair of USB-C controllers for next-generation desktops and laptops-- the EZ-PD CCG6DF and EZ-PD CCG6SF, single-chip solutions featuring USB 3.2, DisplayPort and Power Delivery support.

The two controllers also support the upcoming USB4 standard, as well as the latest Intel Thunderbolt platforms. Both integrate multiple features from previous generation Cypress controller designs, such as a VBUS provider load switch for power with fault protection. An embedded 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0 processor allows firmware upgrades for USB4 support through 64KB of flash memory.
