PC Games Get Motion Control

Razer announces the Hydra, its take on console-style motion controllers for the PC.

The package consists of a x2 controllers (each with an analog stick, x4 buttons, trigger and bumper) and a base station. The base station uses magnetic motion sensing to track the controllers' locations in the users' hands.

It is currently compatible with over 125 PC games, with downloadable configurations for more games to be available in the future.

Genius unveils a different take on the remote mouse at CeBIT 2011-- the Ring Mouse, ideal for users controlling their PCs in the living room.

As its name suggests, the device comes in the form of a ring users slip their finger into (thanks to a one size fits all rubber design), using their thumb to control the cursor via OpotoWheel touchpad (with a 1000 dpi optical sensor). Wysips proposes a means to eliminate chargers of any kind-- by turning device screens into solar chargers.

Its technology involves layering a superthin (less than 100 microns thick) transparent photovolotaic film on top of a device's display, with the film producing power from nearby light sources (be it the sun or electric lamps).

Motion-Sensing Gestures on PC

Asus reveals its take on motion-based input with its WAVI Xtion at CeBIT 2011, combining PrimeSense technology with its Xtion Portal user interface.

The awkwardly-named device looks and works very much like the XBox Kinect-- whose motion-sensing technology was done by the same company now working with Asus.

The Xtion comes in 3 parts-- the sensor itself, and a pair of media streaming extending the users' PC desktop to a TV to which the sensor is connected (one connects to PC, the other to the sensor). All actual connections are through wireless HDMI, with a range of up to 25m.
