Gartner: EMEA PC Shipments Up in Q1 2018!

According to Gartner, EMEA PC shipments see some growth in Q1 2018-- specifically by 1.7% Y-o-Y, to total 18.6 million units, thanks to the enterprises starting implement "many" previously delayed Windows 10 projects.

Further boosting hardware growth, at least from the enterprise side, is the fast approach of the compliance deadline for the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). One also has to keep in mind reports of cybersecurity breaches making security a strong priority in the hardware refresh cycle. Eurasia remains a bright spot in EMEA, as Q1 2018 demand is strong in countries such as Russia, Ukrain and Kazakshtan.

Chuwi Packs Kaby Lake in HiGame Mini PC

Chinese tablet maker Chuwi takes on the mini-PC format as it announces the HiGame-- a desktop PC promising an Intel 8th gen Core processor and Radeon RX Vega graphics in a miniature chassis.

The HiGame chassis measures 18 x 15cm and has a volume of 2l. It carries a 65W Intel Core i5-8305G CPU and Radeon graphics, together with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB SSD storage. The combination promises adequate gaming performance, since the Core i5 is a quad-core number with Hyperthreading, while the GPU features 20 compute units and 4GB of HBM2 memory offering 179.2 GB/s memory bandwidth.

Acer Puts Qi Charging Pad in Aspire S24 AIO

Acer launches its slimmest All-In-One (AIO) desktop PC yet-- the Aspire S24, a 23.8-inch machine featuring a Kaby Lake Intel Core i5 processor, Intel graphics card, 12GB RAM and 1TB storage.

The above mentioned components come packed in a display just 0.6cm thick. It handles 1920 x 1080 resolution and uses an IPS panel offering wide 178-degree viewing angles. Acer ExaColor technology pushes colour saturation and contrast, Bluelight Shield cuts blue light levels and Flickerless promises to reduce screen flicker.

The Lian Li Alpha case series is one of the more attractive from the company, featuring sleek designs with a steel internal frame and all-two-level transparency tempered glass panels.

First announced back in November 2017, the Alpha cases come in two flavours-- Alpha 330 and Alpha 550. Corsair Updates Hydro Series H60 Cooler

Corsair launches an update of the 2011 Hydro series H60 liquid CPU cooler-- one featuring reduced size, white LED lighting frills and, perhaps most importantly, better performance.

The 2018 H60 is an AiO cooler with a 120mm radiator and mutli-CPU socket mounting. It has the same the same as the company's H150i PRO and H115i PRO coolers, and uses a thermally-optimised cold plate and low-noise pump to transfer heat from the CPU to the radiator. Customers can mount the radiator to any 120mm fan mount (making it compatible with all Corsair cases), while rotating fittings and rubber hoses make installation easier.

Intel Shows Off VR-Capable NUC

The Game Developer Conference 2018 has Intel show off the Hades Canyon NUC-- the most powerful version of the mini-PC format yet, one Chipzilla says is capable of powering virtual reality headsets.

First launched back in January 2018, the Hades Canyon NUC runs on an 8th generation Intel Core i7 CPU with Raden RX Vega M graphics. Intel claims it allows the creation of the smallest VR-capable systems ever, since the motherboard fits in a chassis with a volume of just 1.2 litre. The system should also be complete with a good amount of connectivity, including dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, dual ethernet ports and an HDMI port for VR headsets.

NZXT Adds to Kraken Cooler Selection

PC component maker NZXT expands the Kraken all-in-one liquid cooler range with the 360mm X72 and the M22, a cooler offering features from the high-end X series at a lower price point.

At 360mm, the X72 is the biggest AIO from NZXT. It is powerful enough to cool higher TDP processor, and offers a 50% increase in surface area over 240mm models. In addition NZXT says the pump is redesigned to be quieter while offering a greater volumetric flow rate compared to the previous generation X42/52/62 models, and is connected to the radiator via nylon-braided sleeved rubber tubing 400mm long. Also included to the pump are RGB lighting and infinite-mirror effects.

Corsair Presents Carbide 275R PC Case

PC component specialist Corsair launches the Carbide 275R-- an entry in the Carbide series offering a tempered glass side panel and a sleek PSU shroud in a minimalist mid-tower design.

The 275R is similar to other Carbide-branded cases. It measures 446 x 211 x 436.5mm, weighs 8.56kg and supports ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX motherboards. It can carry up to a 360mm liquid cooling radiator in the front or a 240mm in the roof, and includes two SP120 cooling fans with space to fit up to six (three 120/140mm fans at the front, two 120/140mm at the top and one 120mm at the rear), as well as unobtrusively placed ventilation to ensure airflow.
