Cooler Masters Cools AMD With Wraith Ripper

Cooler Master follows on the recent AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2 announcement with an appropriate cooling solution-- the Wraith Ripper, an air cooler able to handle the 250W thermal output the 32-core CPUs dissipate.

The Wraith Ripper consists of seven copper heatpipes feeding into a multiple aluminium fins, together with a 120mm fan in the centre providing airflow at around 39dBA. The cooler is big enough to cover the entire TR4 socket, and ships complete with fully-addressable RGB lighting for the Threadripper logo and two LED strips running down the centre.

InWin's Sculptural Z-Tower Chassis

The InWin Computex 2018 stand houses what looks like a modern sculpture but is, in fact, a PC chassis-- the Z-Tower is a showpiece mid-tower case built out of 40kg cast aluminium.

The Z-Tower is not exactly a mass market offering, what with it bearing a $10000 pricetag. It is built out of a series of aluminium castings bolted to a frame in a helix design, making what InWin describes as "pure, architectural art." That said it is still a functional PC case, and it fits mATX, ATX, and E-ATX motherboards, carries both USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Type-C and has space for a 360mm radiator.

Cooler Master's Huge Computex 2018 PC

Computex 2018 has Cooler Master show off what it claims is the biggest water cooled PC, ever-- the Inception Project, a collaboration involving various Taiwanese experts pushing the boundaries of PC building.

The actual machine is a multi-system wall measuring 2 x 3m, or the space of around x2 mid-tower ATX chassis. Cooler Master says the whole thing is worth around $100000, and includes large water cooling component banks and many RGB LEDs. Being a collaborative project, the Inception Project is sponsored by  AMD, ASRock, Bitspower, ASUS, G.Skill, Adata, PowerColor, Biostar, HyperX, and Viewsonic.

Building the Inception Project are AK MOD, IID team, Brothers MOD, KMOD Studio and MJ MOD, all talented custom PC modification teams from Taiwan.

Amazon Offers ODM PC Designs

Amazon wants the Alexa smart assistant to reside in more PCs-- so much so it now offers ODMs a choice of 4 Windows 10 PC designs to bring about what it claims is "the next major disruption in the PC category."

The PC lineup includes an All-in-One (AIO) desktop from Wistron and three convertible notebooks from Compal, Quanta and Wistron. All promise to be pre-tested, final-product designs built for a "far-field Alexa experience," with Intel CPUs, drivers, wake word engine and microphone arrays. The Wistron AIO PC features a 27-inch 4K display, 1080p webcam with an IR sensor, x4 microphones and x2 stereo speakers. In addition, the Taiwanese PC maker also has a convertible notebook with a 15.6-inch 4K touchscreen, HD camera, x4 microphones, x2 speakers and battery life reaching 8 hours.

MSI Intros Pro 24X AIO PC

MSI presents an all-in-one (AIO) PC-- the PRO 24X series, offering a profile just just 6.5mm thick (the same thickness as a standard a pencil) holding a 23.8-inch IPS panel with 2.2mm bezels on three sides.

The display handles 1920 x 1080 resolution, and features MSI Anti-Flicker technology to reduce eye strain, anti-glare coating and wide viewing angles. It is also VESA mountable, while an HDMI out port allows for twin-display setups.

Inside the chassis is a choice of Intel Celeron 3865U, Pentium 4415U, Core i3-7100U or Core i5-7200U processors, all with integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 GPU. Storage comes through an M.2 SSD (NVMe PCIe/SATA Auto Switch), and an "MSI HDD Rapid Upgrade Design" allows customers to access the 2.5-inch SATA bay. The Core processors also offer support for Intel Optane Memory. Two SO-DIMM slots handle up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

Arctic Cools AM4 Processors With Alpine AM4

Arctic presents a first passive cooler compatible with AMD AM4 processors-- the Alpine AM4, a chunky offering designed for use with APUs and CPUs dissipating no more than 47W.

The Alpine AM4 cooler consists of 21 thick fins 81mm tall. Construction is in black anodised aluminium, and the base measures 100 x 100mm on the sides. As such, it needs to be installed in fairly spacious cases. Installation promises to be easy, with four screws with springs included in the package together with pre-applied MX-2 thermal compound.

Nvidia Aims 3GB GTX 1050 at Gamers

Nvidia launches a lower-cost video card option aimed specifically at gamers-- the GTX 1050 3GB, a card with a faster base clock but lower memory bandwidth, positioning it between the 2GB GTX 1050 and the 4GB 1050 Ti.

The reason the GTX 1050 3GB targets gamers (if those on a budget) as opposed to crypto-miners lies in the amount of memory. Crypto-mining for currencies such as Ethereum requires a minimum of 3GB of VRAM, but such an amount is decent enough for games.

A Cryorig Cooler for SSDs

Cryorig claims to have a first on show at Computex 2018-- the Frostbit, an "M.2 NVMe SSD aftermarket cooler with dual-heatpipe technology" to ensure "crucial bits and bytes" remain nice and cool.

The Frostbit attaches to the SSD via finned heatspreader connected to dual-stacked heatpipes. In turn, the heatpipes conduct heat away from the drive to a large surface area cylindrical heatsink. The device measures 72 x 26.3 x 57mm, weighs 56g and is adjustable to fit different PC setups. Thus, users can tilt it to either side to avoid the GPU or large CPU coolers.
