Asus Intros Z390 Motherboards

The 9th generation Intel Core processor launch brings about motherboards releases-- such as the Asus porfolio of Z390-based motherboards under the ROG, ROG Strix, Prime, WS and TUF Gaming portfolios.

Asus offers no less than 16 products (19 if one counts wifi-enabled variants), ranging from the Srix Z390-I Gaming mini-ITX board to the Maximus XI Extreme EATX. Many of the motherboards feature AI Overclocking, a piece of software Asus says (simulates a human overclocker by increasing clock speeds, tweaking voltages, and testing stability before pursuing higher frequencies." Lower-end motherboards lack the software, but instead offer OC Tuner to boost clock speeds with a choice of predefined profiles.

DigiTimes: AMD Regains Desktop CPU Share

Prospects are looking increasingly positive for AMD-- following a 2017 return to profitability, the company is set to set to gain 30% global desktop processor share in Q4 2018, DigiTimes reports.

Key to such gains is fully foundry support from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), as well as Intel 10nm processor launch delays. According to "industry sources," AMD has recently loosened ties with Globalfaoundries in favour of contracting TSMC to manufacture GPUs, server and PC processors using a 7nm process. The change brought about better chip yield rates and performance, not to mention regular shipments to customers.

A SilverStone Riser for M.2 SSDs

SilverStone announces the SST-EMC23-- a PCIe x16 riser card for M.2 SSDs aimed at customers wanting to either maximise the efficiency of SSD cooling or simply install more SSDs in a spare PCIe x16 slot.

The EMC23 allows M.2 storage to run via PCIe connection, meaning users do not need to buy a new motherboard in case their PC lacks M.2 slots. It is compatible with AHCI over PCIe and NVMe (but not M.2 SATA connections) and houses a single PCIe M.2- 2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280 drive. Since heat is a concern with M.2 SSDs, the EMC32 includes x2 heat spreaders, thermal pad and x2 LEDs to monitor the activity of an installed SSD.

EK Water Blocks for the GeForce RTX GPUs

Slovenia-based cooling specialist EKWB announces high-performance water blocks for the Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards-- the EK-Vector RTX, designed for custom-built cooling systems using the latest GPUs from the company.

The EK-Vector RTX water block handles multiple Turing-based reference design graphics cards. It features a slim single slot design, and covers the entire length of the PCB. A "unique" cover over the block terminal reveals the graphics card model from the side. The cooling block comes in 8 versions, all featuring proprietary Open Slit-Flow micro-channels guiding cooling liquid to the GPU, VRAM and VRM (voltage regulating module), even with weaker water pumps.
