AMD reveals a pair of laptop CPU additions to the Ryzen Mobile 4000 range-- the flagship Ryzen 9 4900H and 4900HS, both designed for high-end gaming laptops such as the upcoming Asus ROG Zephyrus G14.

AMD Ryzen 4900As the only two AMD notebook APUs featuring Ryzen 9 branding, the two processors pack eight cores and 16 threads, together with 8 cores of integrated Vega graphics. The standard H model offers 45W operation with 3.3GHz base clock and 4.4GHz boost, while the HS runs at 35W allowing for 3GHz clock speed able to boost up to 4.3GHz.

According to the company the 4900HS, when paired with an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU, offers 60fps performance on a number of AAA games, including Rise of the Tomb Raider, Hitman and Far Cry 5. The processors use a SmartShift feature to shift power between CPU and GPU in order to optimise game performance, and AMD claims they allow for notebooks with battery lives reaching up to 10 hours on a single charge.

The 4900 series chipsets will be available in Q2 2020 in a number of laptops, with the first being the aforementioned Asus ROG Zephyrus G14.
