Concerns involving the coronavirus (aka Covid-19) have affected two of the biggest CE vendors in the world-- Reuters reports both Samsung and LG are closing factories in S. Korea following employees testing positive for the virus.

The first closure involves a Samsung mobile device factory complex in the city of Gumi. The company confirmed one case of an infected employee at the factory, leading to the shutdown of the entire facility. In addition, all colleagues of the infected employee were put in self-quarantine, and are being tested for possible infection.

Gumi is close to the city of Daegu, home to a church at the centre of the largest coronavirus outbreak in S. Korea. It houses a facility producing high-end smartphones for the domestic market. Samsung adds production at chip and display factories in other parts of the country are not affected, at least for now.

The second story also involves the city of Gumi, where LG has a display module factory. An employee at a bank located next to the plant tested positive to the virus, leading to a temporary shutdown. However, LG does not say what effect the closure will cause on phone output.
