Huawei had a tablet announcement in store for MWC 2020, but since the Barcelona event is cancelled it just had to do it the regular way-- the MatePad Pro 5G, a self-explanatory 5G update of the iPad Pro-style MatePad Pro.

Announced last year for the Chinese market, the MatePad Pro is a high-end Android tablet. It features a 10.8-inch 16:10 aspect ratio AMOLED touchscreen complete with a punch hole for an 8MP front-facing camera. Display resolution clocks at 2560 x 1600, and Huawei claims it has a screen-to-body ratio of no less than 90%. The display is also allows for pen input, specifically through the (not included) M-Pencil stylus.

Inside the tablet is Huawei Kirin 990 SoC combining a 7nm+ EUV processor and a 5G modem, as well as 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB NAND flash storage. Providing power is a large 7250mAh battery users can charge through either 40W SuperCharger or 15W wireless charging, and Huawei says it can also act as a wireless charger, reverse-charging compatible phones at 7.5W.

On the software side the MatePad Pro runs on Android 10 as skinned with the EMUI 10 overlay. However China's recent spats with the US mean the tablet lacks Google Play or Mobile Services suite, making it less competitive outside of China. It does have a Samsung DeX-style desktop mode making it easier to use productivity applications, especially when paired with a keyboard.

The MatePad Pro is available in EMEA markets from June 2020. Huawei also offers a range of accessories, including a keyboard case and the aforementioned M-Pencil, as well as a 4G and wifi-only versions of the tablet.
