Ricoh announces an addition to the digital compact WG series camera line-- the WG-70, an "ultra-rugged" successor to the WG-60 featuring dedicated shooting modes for underwater and macro photography.

Ricoh WG-70The WG-70 has a 16MP 1/2.3-inch backside-illuminated CMOS sensor with maximum sensitivity of SO 6400. It captures 1080p resolution video as well as still photos, and includes a number of focus modes such as 9-point AF, Spot AF and Auto-tracking AF. The onboard lens features a 28-140mm 35mm-equivalent focal length, with F3.5-F5.5 aperture range, and offers an additional 7.5X zoom using an "Intelligent Zoom" feature.

The lens has a ring of six LEDs allowing for a "Digital Microscope" mode to enlarge the subject the camera is capturing. A regular Macro mode is also included, while an underwater shooting mode compensates for the colour shift taking place under the water. A 2.7-inch "outdoor friendly" LCD with an anti-reflective coating allows users to compose and review shots.

Moving on the rugged qualities of the camera, the WG-70 is waterproof down to 14, shockproof from falls up to 1.6m and can withstand temperatures reaching -10ºC. It is compatible with the Ricoh line of WG series mount accessories, allowing use as an action camera. Storage comes through standard SD/DHC/SDXC memory card slot, and a rechargeable D-LI92 lithium-ion battery provides camera.

The WG-70 ships by end March 2020.
