AMD takes to CES 2020 to further detail the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, the gigantic 64-core, 128-thread desktop processor first leaked back in November 2019 before the company officially announced it a month later.

Described as nothing less than "one CPU to rule them all in 2020," the Threadripper 3990X is essentially a consumer version of the Epyc 7702P server processor. As the first 64-core high-end desktop processor, it offers 128 threads of processing power and clock speeds reaching 2.9GHz with a boost of up to 4.3GHz. As such, it is aimed less at regular customers and more at professionals working on video editing and 3D rendering.

AMD says the processor is built using the TSMC 7nm processor, and carries to 288MB combined cache as divided in 32KB of L1 instruction and 32KB of L1 data cache per core, 512KB of L2 cache per core, and 256MB of shared L3 cache. It also offers 64 PCIe 4 lanes per processor and fits into a sTRX4 socket with power draw reaching 280W. The result, the company adds, is a processor 51% faster than the previous Threadripper generation.

The Threadripper 3990X hits the market on February 2020.
