Razer claims the Viper gaming mouse has an extra edge thanks to the addition of optical switches to the main left and right buttons allowing for "lightning-fast" response times of just 0.2ms.
Reportedly superior to the mechanical alternative, the Razer Optical Mouse Switches require no physical contact for signal transmission, bringing about improved durability with a rating of up to 70 million clicks. For the curious, the technology is based on infrared actuation. Essentially, clicking one of the buttons triggers a shutter crossing an infrared beam to instantly send a signal to the PC.
The switches come inside a mouse with an ambidextrous mouse with two main buttons, dual thumb-macros on either side and a DPI toggle on the bottom. A 5G Advanced Optical Sensor offers up to 16000 DPI and measures 50G acceleration, as well as up to 450 IPS. In all, the rodent weighs 69g, and is wired using a SpeedFlex cable Razer says reduces friction, snagging and "edge drag" affecting the mouse flicks characteristic of low-DPI FPS gameplay.
The Razer Viper is available now.
