A PC For Flight Simulation

E-mail Print PDF

Customers with a penchant for flight simulators might be interested in the Honeycomb by Maingear-- a desktop PC built by Maingear in collaboration with Honeycomb, maker of professional-grade flight simulators.

Honeycomb by MaingearWhile a niche interest, flight simulators maintain an active community, despite the perhaps untimely death of Microsoft Flight Simulator. The more complex sims even find use in actual pilot training! The Honeycomb by Maingear appears ideal for such purposes, since it features triple monitor support and a built-in USB hub for the connection of multiple peripherals, such as a yoke, throttle, rudder pedals and panels.

The base model of the PC features a Core i5 CPU and Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics, allowing it to handle a pre-installed copy of X-Plane 11. Also included are pedals and a Honeycomb pilot-designed yoke the company claims has "genuine aerospace components and the same internal mechanics used in premium certified simulators approved by the FAA for flight training use."

Enthusiast customers can add more high-end Honeycomb peripherals to the system, such as the "Yoke and Switch Panel," and "Bravo Throttle System with Auto Pilot & Annunciation Panel," without worrying about compatibility issues. However Maingear still has to announce when it hits the market.
