A DVR for the Streaming Age

E-mail Print PDF

Texas-based Modulus Media Systems claims to have a DVR designed for the streaming era-- the M1, a multi-function media hub able to record all streaming shows, and organise said recordings in folders for easy enjoyment.

Modulus M1First announced 2 years ago and 7 years in the making, the M1 was originally set for a late 2017 release. It promises to be a combination of multiple pieces of home entertainment hardware software, with the features of a DVR, function-rich media centre, multiple streaming boxes, Blu-ray/DVD player and personal media organiser.

In addition, Modulus says American spending on subscription content of the Netflix and HBO GO variety totals $9.6 billion in 2017, and around 50% of US households will have a streaming media player sometime in 2018. One can imagine similar numbers for the European market, and as such something like the M1 can represent an opportunity.

The M1 will be on show at CEDIA 2018. No release date is available, but Modulus says the system will be on sale exclusively through custom installer partners.
