How to Add Wireless Headphone Support to the Switch

A Kickstarter project by startup Human Things promises to bring a missing feature to Nintendo's popular Switch console-- wireless headphone support, through a USB-C dongle dubbed the Genki.

Genki dongleThe Switch technically already supports wireless headsets, but only by plugging an adapter in the USB-A port found in the dock included with the console. The Genki sets to solve the issue by being a small dongle users connect in the USB-C port of the console, meaning it can be used even in handheld mode. It offers Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, with support for up aptX low latency audio and up to 2 simultaneous audio devices.

Being a small dongle, the Genki draws a small amount of power from the console (around 0.02W, Human Things says), with no need for an own battery. Users can also plug it in the dock through the addition of an extra adapter. Of course, the Genki also allows one to pair the Switch with wireless speakers for an external sound boost. Finally, Human Things offers a stand for customers wanting to use the Switch in tabletop mode with the dongle attached.

As mentioned earlier the Genki is available as a preorder on Kickstarter, with shipping to start from November 2018.
