Rumours emerge on the successor of the Snapdragon 850, the PC-focused Qualcomm chipset-- WinFuture.de claims to have details on the Snapdragon 1000, a chip designed for Windows 10 laptops.

Qualcomm chipThe recently announced Snapdragon 850 promises to bring smartphone-style features to laptops, such as always-on LTE or wifi connections ensuring users receive notifications and have data always synced while on the go. According to the reports the Snapdragon 1000 is an even more powerful laptop chip, one aimed to rival the likes of the Intel Y- and U-series Core processors with a power draw reaching 6.5W. In comparison, the Y- and U-series chips have a power draw of 4.5 and 15W respectively.

WinFuture says the chipset is large, measuring 20.x15mm (the Snapdragon measures 12x12mm, while Intel chips are 45x24mm), and has a curious desktop-style socketed processor design. Qualcomm supposedly has a test platform running on the Snapdragon 1000, one complete with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM, two 128GB UFS SSDs, 802.11ad wifi, LTE and a new power management controller. The chip is built using the TSMC 7nm processor, and is based on the ARM Cortex-A76 architecture.

No word is available as to when the Snapdragon 1000 will see an official reveal. Currently the Snapdragon 850 is slated towards the end of 2018, while initital Snapdragon-based laptops are currently hitting the market.
