Western Digital announces a new version of the My Cloud Home wireless backup devices, featuring a sleeker design, simpler setup and an improved app.
The first and most apparent addition to the My Cloud Home devices is the design-- a more angular, two-tone affair with a textured bottom half. This makes them very different from the more rounded "book" style of the previous versions. Also getting a redesign is the companion app, now named My Cloud Home (from just My Cloud).
WD says the new drives are designed "from the ground up" for the new app, and as such it is not compatible with previous My Cloud Home devices. That said, the basic functionality remains the same, with the devices acting as a central place for all of a users' photos, videos, music and files.
My Cloud Home products feature dual-HDDs (for automatic duplication via RAID 1 Mirror Mode) and ship in capacities ranging from 2TB to 16TB.
