A SilverStone Riser for M.2 SSDs

SilverStone announces the SST-EMC23-- a PCIe x16 riser card for M.2 SSDs aimed at customers wanting to either maximise the efficiency of SSD cooling or simply install more SSDs in a spare PCIe x16 slot.

EMC 23The EMC23 allows M.2 storage to run via PCIe connection, meaning users do not need to buy a new motherboard in case their PC lacks M.2 slots. It is compatible with AHCI over PCIe and NVMe (but not M.2 SATA connections) and houses a single PCIe M.2- 2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280 drive. Since heat is a concern with M.2 SSDs, the EMC32 includes x2 heat spreaders, thermal pad and x2 LEDs to monitor the activity of an installed SSD.

In addition, a copper mesh transfers heat from the back of an SSD to the rear heat spreader. The package offers a selection of 3 thermal pads, with either a small charcoal pad, medium-size blue pad and a large gray pad, with respective thickness at 0.5, 1 and 1.5mm. Thermal conductivity clocks at around 1.5W/mK

SilverStone is still to detail when the EMC23 hits the market.
