Meizu claims to slash phone charging times at Mobile World Congress with Super mCharge-- a technology able to fully charge a 3000mAh battery in all of 20 minutes.

Super mChargeSuper mCharge technology is rated at 55W (11V, 5A), significantly higher than competing technologies such as Motorola TurboPower (25.5W) or Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 (18W). It also battery temperatures do not exceed 38 °C, which is crucial since batteries can explode if put through much heat.

To provide such power ratings Meizu uses a charge pump-- a DC to DC converter using an external circuit to control the connection of capacitors to the input voltage. The charge pump can raise or lower output voltage according to input by disconnecting the capacitor from the source via switch, and reconfiguring the circuit with additional switches. Meizu adds the circuit is paired with a new lithium-based 3000mAh battery able to handle 4x the current of previous batteries.

Meizu still has to announce when Super mCharge will be available in a device, but we expect it take place sooner, rather than later.
