IFA 2015 sees Sony launch the flagship Xperia Z5 family-- the 4K display-equipped Z5 Premium, the Z5 and the Z5 Compact, all featuring the latest Sony cameras and a fingerprint sensor integrated in the power button.

Xperia Z5The Z5 Premium is arguably the most intersting of the three, thanks to the 5.5-inch 3840x2160 resolution display. The resolutions on the other models don't go so high, as the Z5 has a 5.2-inch 1080p display while the Z5 Compact has a 4.6-inch 720p screen.

Specification-wise the Z5 handsets are more or less identical-- all carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processors, 3GB RAM (2GB in the Z5 Compact), up to 32GB internal storage (expandable via microSD), high-res audio chips and "up to 2-day battery life."

Meanwhile the camera features a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS 23MP sensor, backside illumination, embedded phase-detection pixels and a 6-element 24mm lens with f/2.0 aperture, a combination Sony claims provides "the fastest autofocus in a leading smartphone."

Construction retains the Sony "OmniBalance" design with metal cases, frosted glass backs and waterpoofing.

The Z5 and Z5 should be available globally from October 2015, with the Z5 Premium to follow on November.
