An eReader One Can Draw On

Print

The reMarkable might look like an unremarkable ePaper tablet, but it hides an interesting trick up its sleeve-- one can draw on the 10.3-inch "Canvas" display, making it a combination of electronic device and paper notepad.

reMarkable eReaderAccording to the makers the display has a paper-like surface and a low latency of 55ms, meaning it can handle writing or drawing with the included Marker stylus without noticeable delay. This makes it superior to similar devices seen in previous years, whose displays failed to handle the capabilities of a regular piece of paper and a pen.

Inside the reMarkable are a 1GHz A9 CPU and 8GB of storage. It weighs 350g and runs on Codex, a custom Linux-based OS designed for eReader use. As mentioned earlier, one can write and draw on the device, as well as read PDF and ePub documents (with support for more file formats to be added on a future date). Battery life clocks at a couple of days, and the package appears to be pretty sturdy thanks to a lack of glass in the build.

The reMarkable ships sometime on H3 2017.
