Customers wanting notebooks able to withstand most situations might be interested in the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook and the Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme convertible.

Dell RuggedBoth are built for worst-case scenarios, with magnesium alloy and impact-resistant ultra-polymer construction and IP-65 dust- and water-proof certification. Sealed doors and compression gaskets protect data, keyboards are sealed, backlit and customisable, and QuadCool thermal management handles performance during high temperatures.

The Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme also features what Dell claims is the first rugged "flip-hinge" convertible display, with a resistive multi-touch display allowing operation with gloved hands.

Both devices carry 4th generation Intel Core CPUs, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, USB 3.0, native serial connectivity and batteries promising up to 8.5 (Latitude 12) or 14 (Latitude 14) hours of use.

The Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook and the Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme convertible ship from May 2014.
