Microsoft Further Details Xbox Series X

Microsoft continues to offer details on the upcoming Xbox Series X game console, with a blog post revealing a slew of technical specifications of a machine the company says is designed for "Power, Speed and Compatibility."

At the heart of the Series X is a semi-custom AM2 Zen 2 processor. It runs 8 cores at 3.8GHz (3.66GHz with SMT in use), with one core handling basic system functions. Next to it is a GPU able to push 12 teraflops of compute power from 52 compute units, allowing for what Microsoft claims is 4K resolution gaming at 60fps, as well as support for 120fps. A large massive vapour chamber and primary fan keep the console cool, in either orientation.

Konami Delays PC Engine Mini

Konami delays the launch of its take on the miniature console, the PC Engine Core Grafx Mini (aka the TurboGrafx-16 Mini in the US)-- and the reason is, as you might have guessed, the coronavirus (aka Covid-19).

The Series X carries a custom AMD processor based on Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architecture. It promises four times the processing power of the Xbox One, as well as up to 12 TFLOPS of GPU performance, twice of the Xbox One X. The result is a "true generational leap" in terms of processing and graphics power, allowing for higher framerates, larger game worlds and sophisticated graphics technologies such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and DirectX Raytracing.

Sony Working on PSVR Headset Sequel?

According to Bloomberg, Sony is working on a sequel to the PlayStation VR headset, set for release after the launch of the PlayStation 5-- meaning it will probably hit the market sometime on 2021.

A followup to the PSVR headset makes sense. After all, the PS5 promises to be backwards compatible with PS4 games, providing it with a ready library or VR-enabled software. One also has to keep in mind the original PSVR headset was a success, with sales reaching over 5 million units, meaning consumers should be ready for a more powerful version. That said, no details are available regarding the capabilities of such a sequel, but the 2017 "CUH-ZVR2" model hints at features such as better cable management, a slimmer connection cable and an updated processor box with HDR passthrough support.
