Microsoft Adds to Surface Range

Microsoft updates a tablet and laptop offering from the Surface range-- the Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3. Also announced are the Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds, as well as the Surface Dock 2 and USB-C Travel Hub.

Created as the more affordable and portable Surface tablet, the Surface Go 2 keeps the same lightweight design with a 10.5-inch display, up from the 10-inch original. The display is also higher resolution at 1920 x 1080, but retains the same 3:2 aspect ratio typical of Surface devices. Internal specifications start from an Intel Pentium Gold processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage up to an 8th Gen Core m3 processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.

XPG Takes on Gaming Notebooks With Xenia

XPG, the gaming division of Taiwanese memory and storage maker Adata, announces a take on gaming laptops-- the Xenia, a 15.6-inch machine based on the Intel 9th Gen Core platform paired with an Nvidia graphics card.

Designed in collaboration with Intel, the Xenia promises "xtreme" gaming performance with a Core i7-9706H processor and a choice of Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q or GTX 1660Ti GPU. It also includes a selection of XPG high-end storage and memory components, with 32GB of DDR4-266 memory and an XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD rated at read/write speeds of 3500/3000MB/s. Powering the machine is a 6-cell 94Wh battery the company claims offers up to 10 hours of use on a single charge.

Apple to Start Using Own Chips in 2021?

Apple plans to replace the Intel processors currently powering Mac computers with own chip designs, Bloomberg reports-- specifically processors based on the A14, the yet-to-be-confirmed chip powering the next generation iPhone.

According to anonymous sources familiar with the matter, Apple is working on three Mac processors based on the A14. Taking care of production is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the same manufacturer behind the current range of iPhone and iPad processors. As to when the first hardware featuring the processors will hit the market, Bloomberg points at a possible 2021 date.

The  8-inch Win Max Gaming Laptop

Hong Kong-based portable PC maker GDP announces what it claims is the "world's smallest handheld gaming laptop"-- the Win Max, an update on the 2018 Win 2 featuring better specs within a sleeker design.

Like other machines in the GDP Win series, the Win Max is a Windows 10 laptop with built-in gaming controls, namely a pair of clickable analogue sticks, d-pad, four face buttons and shoulder triggers. It also features an 8-inch 1280 x 800 resolution touchscreen able to push up to 500 nits brightness with 90% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, while the miniature keyboard is backlit and includes a touchpad.

Asus Intros Chromebook Flip C436

Asus announces a Chromebook addition-- the Flip C436, available in two flavours both featuring an Intel Comet Lake CPU, with either the dual-core Intel i3-10110U or the quad-core i5-10210U.

Like the name might suggest, the Flip C436 has a 2-in-1 hybrid design. The 14-inch 1080p touchscreen is attached to the keyboard via 360-degree hinge allowing use in multiple configurations, including as a tablet, with a stand or simply as a regular notebook computer. The chassis is built out of magnesium allow and comes in a choice of two colours, transparent silver or aerogel white.
