"The purpose of the conference is to help people meet each other face to face, and to find contacts and opportunities," says IPT/IGT/ICB managing director Anthony Elliot-Square.

CeBIT Goes "100% Business"

CeBIT Goes

A change in director brings a change in direction for the show we love to hate-- CeBIT 2014 goes "100% business," dropping the consumer segment in favour of a purely B2B event.

“We aim to more strongly leverage CeBIT’s core strengths by means of targeted enhancements,” CeBIT managing board member Oliver Frese says. “The event is being placed on a ‘100% business’ track-– exactly in line with the wishes of our customers."

Deutsche Messe rattles statistics from CeBIT 2013 to explain the reasoning behind such a change of heart. Reportedly 82% of CeBIT 2013 attendees were trade visitors, 33% were top-level managers and 60% of visiting professionals have no plans to attend another 2013 IT event.

Thus CeBIT 2014 will drop the four-pillar approach of previous years to instead assign topics to eight self-explanatory "clusters"-- Enterprise Resource Planning & Data Analysis, Enterprise Content Management, Web & Mobile Solutions, IT Services, Security, Communication & Networks, Infrastructure & Data Centers, and Research & Innovations.

The first week of March 2013 means one thing-- we head to Hannover for the show we love to hate, CeBIT 2013, still one of the biggest trade shows of its kind in the world.

Now in its 27th edition, CeBIT houses nearly 4100 companies from 70 countries within 17 exhibition halls, 2 conference centres, 3 VIP lounges and a matchmaking area at the Hannover Exhibition Centre.

Poland is the Partner Country of the year, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk joined German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel at the official opening ceremony, before the actual floodgates are opened on 5 March.

IFA Berlin Fills Venue for 2012 (Already)

IFA Berlin is already sold out. More companies have submitted applications for space than space exists, says Dr. Christian Goeke, COO, Messe Berlin (photo top left).

Until the new Hall 15 goes up in 2015, IFA will be a show filled to its limit...and then some as the organizer looks for temporary solutions to accommodate. That’s 140,000 sqm of exhibits plus whatever extra space can be shoe-horned into IFA by using outdoor tents and other temporary buildings.

Part of the pressure comes from the growing number of Asian exhibitors. The more robust appliance business also clamours for space. And in consumer electronics, the growth is in mobile devices and accessories as well as the Apple ecosystem.

That's one of the main messages we took from the IFA Global Press Conference in Dubrovnik this year.

But that's not the only message.

CES 2012 Will Go Green

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announces CES 2012 will not only be the "coolest" tradeshow but also be the greenest, with the adoption of several new sustainability practices.

For the first time this year for this year attendee badge holders will come from recycled vinyl show banners, which the CEA will collect at the end of the show to recycle even further. The CEA is also pushing for signs made from recycled materials (such as reusable cardboard) while collecting magnetic, vinyl and Continue reading...

Microsoft to Make No CES Show

Just as Frank Sinatra famously sang, Microsoft will soon start saying "I did it my way" after deciding to make a final big and expensive appearance at CES 2012, corporate VP Frank X. Shaw announces.

The Microsoft keynote at the January show (something of an annual tradition) will be the 14th and last, too. The company has been showing up at CES for the last 20 years.

The reason? Microsoft prefers to make announcements following its own timeline. Refusal to pay for CES space might be an issue, Continue reading...
