Cooler Master Intros Master Box Lite 5

Gamer customers wanting a stylish PC chassis on a budget might be interested in the Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5, an ATX mid-tower chassis featuring a "DarkMirror" front panel.

As a more mainstream PC case the MasterBox Lite 5 has little in terms of thrills of frills. What it does have is a PSU cover for the hiding of cables, four 120mm fans, space in the front and rear for liquid cooling radiators and up to 400mm space for the fitting of graphics cards. Storage comes in a single 2.5-inch SSD mount plus two combo 3.5-/2.5-inch mounts for two more HDDs or SSDs.

The trim is customisable in either red, black or white, and a transparent acrylic side panel allows one to show off internal components. Customers wanting to customise the chassis further can even get downloadable 3D printing schematics for the top or buttom trim.

iCX Cools EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Gaming Hybrid

EVGA presents a "hybrid" version of its iCX cooling technology-- first seen in the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Gaming Hybrid, a graphics card featuring both direct liquid cooling and heatsink/fan cooling.

The liquid cooling takes care of the GPU, while the heatsink and fan keep the memory and VRM cool. The two cooling systems are combined with an array of thermal sensors and MCUs (iCX), and the company claims the result "gives you unbelievable GPU temperatures, sometimes cutting your GPU load temperatures in half."

The liquid cooling block is accompanied by a 120mm radiator and fan. The dedicated memory cooling plate makes direct contact with the cooling block plus dedicated heatsink/fan for the VRMs, helping push performance to the limit. Behind the scenes, iCX technology allows extensive monitoring and "full control" via Precision XOC software.

Apple Promises Mac Pro Update

Apple insists it has not forgotten about the Mac Pro-- SVP of global marketing Phil Schiller tells Daring Fireball a "completely rethought" Mac Pro is to launch some time next year.

As one might expect Schiller gives very little details as to what the next generation of Apple pro desktop PC will offer. He does promise it features a "modular system," since Apple reportedly feels "sorry" about the concept behind the Mac Pro.

"The current Mac Pro, as we’ve said a few times, was constrained thermally and it restricted our ability to upgrade it," Schiller says. "And for that, we’re sorry to disappoint customers who wanted that, and we’ve asked the team to go and re-architect and design something great for the future that those Mac Pro customers who want more expandability, more upgradability in the future."
