Logitech Presents C922 Webcam

Logitech announces a successor to the popular C920 webcam-- the C922 Pro Stream, a webcam able to record 1080p resolution video at 30fps or 720p at 60fps, with dynamic background replacement via Personify software.

Designed for "serious" streamers, the webcam is compatible with broadcast software such as OBS and XSplit, which is comes included in the package in the shape of a 3-month premium license. This allows users to overlay video of themselves on top of the game stream.

In addition the C922 also offers automatic low light correction, sharp autofocus, flicker lighting adjustment and a pair of omnidirectional noise canceling microphones for stereo audio with no-drop streaming.

IDC: Improved Q2 2016 for PC Monitors

According to IDC Q2 2016 PC monitor shipments total 30 million units in Q2 2016-- a 4.9% Y-o-Y (or 4.6% Q-o-Q) increase the analyst describes as better than previous forecasts.

However the analyst also predicts the global market will decline at rates of around -3% Y-o-Y from 2018 through 2020, even if currently EMEA sees "solid" Y-o-Y results, the result of growing mobile device adoption at lower price points. As for full year 2016, IDC forecasts shipments will reach 118m, a decline of -12.7%.

LG Presents Biggest Monitors at IFA 2016

LG announces a duo of 21:9 "UltraWide" monitors-- the 38-inch 38UC99 curved monitor and the 144Hz 34-inch 34UC79G curved gaming monitor, both offering "significant advances in display innovation."

The 38UC99 features a 3840 x 1600 resolution IPS panel offering a colour gamut covering 99% of sRGB colour space. Described as the biggest curved monitor from the company yet, it is also the first to feature USB-C connectivity for the transmission of both content and power through a single cable.

Custom display options are available through OnScreen Control and My Display Preset software.

Dell announces the S2417DG-- a 24-inch gaming monitor promising "premium visuals fit for a champion" through WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and variable refresh rate with Nvidia G-Sync.

Refresh rates range from 30 to 165Hz, while the inclusion of Nvidia G-Sync ensures the elimination of screen tearing, stuttering and ghost images. Grey-to-grey response time is also fast at 1-millisecond, while 3D is supported through Nvidia 3D Vision technology. Constrast ratio stands at 1000:1 with 350cd/m2 brightness, 170/160 viewing angles, 16.7 million colour depth and standard sRGB gamut.

Apple Ends Thunderbolt Display

Apple confirms it is ending sales of the only monitor it makes, the Thunderbolt Display-- but the press continues to insist a much rumoured replacement remains in the works.

"We’re discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display," the company tells The Verge. "It will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorised Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users."

The 2560x1440 resolution Thunderbolt Display was much loved by Apple fans, but the monitor has not seen an update since 2011. However, while Apple is still to confirm its plans regarding the monitor industry, the grapevine says a 4K (if not 5K) update is to launch sooner, rather than later.

ePaper Makes Colour Breakthrough

E Ink, the company behind the ePaper display inside the Amazon Kindle, makes a colourful breakthrough-- Advanced Colour ePaper (ACeP), an ePaper display able to display up to 32000 colours.

Described as a first in electrophoretic displays (EPD) ACeP achieves full colour gamut, including all 8 primary colours, without need for a colour filter array (CFA). The colour display uses a single layer of electrophoretic fluid controlled via voltages compatible with TFT backplanes. Such a solution is described as more commercially viable than alternative solutions involving complex stacked backplane structures.

The company adds ACeP technology retains the ultra-low-power and paper-like readability of regular monochrome ePaper displays.

Acer Intros Predator Z1 Curved Monitors

The Acer curved monitor portfolio more options with the Predator Z1-- a series of 3 widescreen LCD displays available in 27-, 30- and 31.5-inch sizes.

All models offer 1920 x 1080 resolution with the exception of the 30-inch model, which comes in 2560 x 1080 resolution. The monitor curve reaches 1800R, while the vertical alignment panels promise better contrast and less backlight bleed than similar IPS displays.

When it comes to refresh rates, the 27- and 31.5-inch models support 144Hz, a figure 30.5-inch model boosts to 200Hz. All models feature built-in G-Sync support, making them ideal for customers using Nvidia hardware.

Display maker AOC presents a premium gaming monitor line-- AGON, with 10 models set to launch in 2016 featuring either IPS or TN panels within both standard and curved options.

All the AGON monitors will feature either Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync technology for flicker-free gaming, as well as response times of just 1ms, 144Hz and higher refresh rates, height-adjustable stands, speakers and USB 3.0 ports. Monitor sizes will range from 24-inch 16:9 to 35-inch ultra-wide, while resolution include HD, QHD and 4K.
