SIIA and the German Pirate

E-mail Print PDF

piracyThe Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) wins first case outside the US-- against a German eBay vendor selling unauthorised Adobe products.

The defendant was committing illegal parallel importing-- importing authentic Adobe products (without Adobe's blessing) to sell on eBay, breaking German copyright law in the process. Now the vendor has to pay a 5-figure sum in damages (while agreeing not to sell any more of the software).

The organisation says this is the "first shot" in a campaign addressing international software piracy.

The SIIA wants to move its anti-piracy efforts to Europe, a step into expanding towards a global operation. Its European anti-piracy program currently monitors internet-based vendors.
