HP Claims "Most Powerful Detachable PC"

HP uses the Adobe Max conference to show off a 2-in-1 tablet-- the ZBook x2, a device the company claims is nothing less than the "world's most powerful detachable PC."

HP ZBook x2Squarely aimed at the professional segment, the ZBook x2 is positioned as a workstation-class machine (thus the "Z" in the name). It comes in a range of technical specifications, topping out at an 8th generation Kaby Lake-R Core i7-8650U, a quad-core, 8-thread CPU running at 4.2GHz. Further details include up to 32GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro M620 graphcs with 2GB video memory, and up to 2TB PCIe SSD storage.

The display comes in two 14-inch 3840 x 2160 resolution flavours-- either regular IPS with reduced glare, or a 10-bit-per-pixel DreamColor panel able to showing the full Adobe RGB colour space. It is touch-capable, and an included Wacom-designed stylus offers 4096 levels of pressure and tilt support, with no battery required.

Connectivity comes through x1 Thunderbolt 3, x2 USB-C Thunderbolt 3, x1 USB-A and x1 HDMI 1.4 ports, together with a headphone jack and  SDXC card reader. Wireless comes via 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wifi, Bluetooth 4.2 and mobile broadband. A 720p webcam features IR support for Windows Hello facial recognition, and a rear-facing 8MP camera is included in the rear.

The ZBook x2 ships from December 2017 with a 1 year subscription to Adobe's Creative Cloud service.
