Akitio presents the Thunder3 Quad Mini-- a Thunderbolt 3-enabled storage device with removable trays for up to four 2.5-inch SATA SSDs or HDDs, ideal for use with the latest MacBooks as well as Windows PCs.
The Thunder3 Quad Mini features aluminium construction and x2 Thunderbolt 3 ports. One port connects to the PC, while the other allows the connection or daisy chaining of Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C peripherals. Also included is a dedicated DisplayPort 1.2 output, and Power Delivery support provides up to 15W to notebooks with support for charging from a 5V/3A source.
On the storage side Akitio says 4 SSDs can reach data transfer speeds of up to 1375MB/s, while 4 HDDs max out at 400MB/s. Software RAID allows users to edit and playback multiple HD and 4K video streams, with enough headroom to simultaneously daisy chain additional monitors and storage devices.
The Thunder3 Quad Mini is available from March 2017.
