The Luma "Surround Wifi" System

E-mail Print PDF

A startup named Luma presents a means to ensure home wifi installations do have any connection dead spots-- a "surround wifi" system consisting of multiple routers.

Luma wifiLuma routers are available as a 3-pack, and form a single network once set up. The company claims the routers "always offer peak performance and speed" by automatically tuning signals according to user position, making it sound like a consumer version of the mesh networks found in large enterprise environments.

Each router carries two dual-band 2GHz and 5GHz radios using 802.11ac Wave 2 wifi.

The system also promises simple setup via smartphone app handling all aspects of network control-- from showing what servers smart appliances connect with to allowing the checking of websites network users view. Parental controls are included, with content filters allowing users to block (and allow access to) specific websites and timers able controlling how long kids can surf the web.

The Luma surround wifi system hits retail sometime on Q2 2016.
